The Cristallerie Royale de Champagne was founded in 1666 by en edict of Louis XIV authorising the Venetian master glassmaker, Jean-Baptiste Mazzolay, to install his manufacture at Bayel. The cristallerie Royale de Champagne was promptly appointed an official supplier to the French Royal Courts.
